This master plan charts a course for the restoration and development of a 118-acre former apple orchard in the lower Hudson Valley with majestic vistas to the Shawangunk Mountains. Neglected for years, the site was overrun by poison ivy. The project restores healthy native plant communities in the stressed areas of the site and maps out maintenance regimes for the undisturbed and restored habitats.
The study explores how the large site can support many kinds of social and solitary activities: kitchen and house gardens, a secret garden for meditation, circuit loops through the property for exercise and wandering, a kickball field for parties, new gardens, meadow, wetland and pond restorations.
After the master plan, the property owners worked with the architects to build a residence on site that integrates with the many supporting landscape spaces on the property.
